More about Klåveröd
Skorstensdalen, Snuvehallar and Skåne volcanoes
Söderåsen's 2,000-million-year-old primeval rock of gneiss has gone through several dramatic changes. A few hundred million years ago, the rock across Skåne cracked due to tensions in the earth's crust. As the lava solidified, diabase, basalt and amphibolite formed. Today, the remains of several volcanoes can be seen in the area. 150 million years ago, it was time for a new spectacle: the earth's crust was pulled apart, surrounding mountains sank, and in the middle of this stood the horst Söderåsen. Klåveröd's spectacular gorges are part of the large rift valley system that includes Klöva hallar and Skäralid. A number of chimney-like rock formations have given Skorstensdalen its name. The high towers are so-called tor formations that consist of hard rocks that weather more slowly than surrounding rocks. Snuvehallar is another impressive rock whose vertical wall looks as if rock blocks have been stacked on top of each other
Beechwort lichen and beech forest red rock
In the hard-to-reach slopes there are old and dead trees which are home to hundreds of our most endangered species of fungi, beetles, mosses and lichens. The older a tree gets, the more habitats are formed – in the cracks of the rough bark, in cavities left by a fallen branch or in the soft wood rotted by a wood fungus. Here in Klåveröd, there are rare species, such as beechwort lichen and the beech forest redcoat beetle. Both depend on the old trees of the mountain slopes.
Stone walls and farm ruins from the past
In Klåveröd there are remains of old stone-walled farms, mill and farm ruins that remind us of our ancestors' toil to get food on the table. At the old mill ruin in the northeast, the Dejebäcken flows below steep cliffs where the old beech trees cling.
Climb
There are several rock and rock formations that may be worth a visit for you who climb. At Snuvestuan there are several natural climbing walls.
Explore unique bog
Traneröd's bog is one of the few untouched bogs in Skåne, which has neither been ditched nor used as peat extraction. On the bog there is a unique composition of plants such as bell heather, cloudberries and cranberries. A path leads you a bit out onto the bog, where there is a viewing platform with a bench. The path is wheelchair friendly or if you take a pram. You are not allowed to camp in the nature reserve.
