Stately deciduous forest on Nävlingeåsen
Bockeboda
Bockeboda recreation area is located on the leafy slope of Nävlingeåsen, down towards Kristianstadslätten. From Bockatorpet, several marked hiking trails and a mountinbike trail start, as well as an exercise track for those who want to train for running. In Bockeboda you will encounter spruce forest in the north and mixed deciduous forest in the south. The hundred-year-old oaks at Uddarp are particularly valuable and are part of Kristianstad Vattenrike's theme landscape "Valuable tree environments in cultivated landscapes". In the southeast is the nature reserve Uddarp where, for example, you are not allowed to make a fire outside fixed barbecue areas, leave a mobile home overnight and have a dog without a leash.

More about Bockeboda
Centennial oaks, beeches and elms
Nävlingeåsen is a primeval horst that was formed by dramatic earthquakes approximately 100 million years ago. Large parts of the area are 60–70 meters above sea level. Bockeboda has rich biological values. Large parts of the ridge are planted with spruce, but there are also beech, oak, pine and birch forests and elements of alder swamp forest. The mighty beeches and large oaks at Uddarp's parking lot are several hundred years old and are particularly valuable for biodiversity, with various lichens, mosses, fungi and insects.
Sweden's southernmost tar valley?
Tar was an important export for Sweden from the 17th to the 19th century. East of the Baslinjen road are the traces of what may be Sweden's southernmost tar valley. No one knows exactly when it was last in use, but tar production has probably been going on here for a long time. Tar valleys were established in forested areas with plenty of pine because it has the highest tar content. A tar valley is a funnel-shaped pit excavated in a slope, in the pit a coal mile is made where pine stumps are stacked and burned. The resin-rich wood was covered with white moss and a layer of earth - by blowing oxygen down, you got a smoldering fire that boiled out the tar. Eventually the tar flowed down the slope where it was caught. Right next to Tjärdalen there are remains of two burial mounds from the Stone Age.
Stone-walled farms and ruins after croft
People have lived and farmed in the area for thousands of years. The place names Bockeboda and Uddarp can be found in the rolls in parcels from the 12th and 13th centuries. Ancient remains show that people lived around the ridge already during the Bronze Age. The traces of people can be seen in the roaming area: impressively long and high stone-walled farms, cattle streets where the animals were moved from farm to pasture and lots of crop heaps. There are also several old abandoned croft grounds with stairs and traces of garden plants. Look out for the stone ruins everywhere. At the so-called Kotäppelé – a kind of crossing or gate where animals have passed – there are two parallel roads, one in the present, one in the past. The Lé in this word means gate.
A source of water that never runs out
Just next to Alf Johansson's road along one of the hiking trails, there is an old spring covered with a moss-covered wooden house. The place used to be considered magical because the spring never stopped no matter how dry it was. If you clean away leaves and debris, you get fresh water. In the past, people in the area fetched water here to save on their own well. Near the spring there is an area where beeches, oaks and pines were left untouched after felling in 1945. The trees are tall with strong trunks and the area is called the Reserve, but is not a nature reserve per se.
